Do you enjoy finding activities that will get your heart racing? If so, try stepping across Shark Bridge to put those nerves to the ultimate test. You may talk a tough game now, but we’ll see when you’re walking just inches above a 21-foot deep shark-infested aquarium full of deadly sharks anxious for their next snack. Are you still up for the challenge?
Today, we’re looking at one of the most unique and thrilling aquarium exhibits we’ve ever seen. Let’s dive in (or not) and check it out!
What Is the Shark Bridge?
Shark Bridge is an 81-foot V-shaped rope bridge that suspends over a 550,000-gallon aquarium. This unique attraction opened on April 8, 2016. While it’s the longest bridge of its kind in the world, the first Shark Bridge opened in April 2015 at Newport Aquarium in Newport, Ky.
The bridge is made from roughly four tons of steel, uses approximately 18,900 feet of rope, and is held together by 148 bolts. As you walk across the bridge, your brain will surely convince you that you’re about to fall into the 21-feet deep pool of saltwater.
You’ll gain a new appreciation for the massive creatures as you stare at approximately 30 sand tiger, sandbar, and nurse sharks. In addition, there are over 20 different species of fish swimming with the shark. Keep an eye out for the massive rays that glide their way through the aquarium.
Where Is the Shark Bridge in NJ?
Shark Bridge is inside the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, N.J. The aquarium is home to more than 15,000 aquatic animals and has the most extensive collection of sharks in the entire Northeast. You can get up close and personal with the more than 400 animals that live in the more than 760,000 gallons of seawater throughout the aquarium.
What Is the Dare to Cross Shark Bridge?
The Dare to Cross Shark Bridge is the challenge the museum provides guests to step across the 81-foot V-shaped rope bridge. It’s not a challenge that you can take lightly. The fear of walking inches above the shark-infested waters can play tricks on your mind. However, safety is paramount at the Adventure Aquarium, but your mind can play some funny tricks on you.
