Do you have a sweet tooth? If you’ve been dreaming of an ice cream capital of the world, we’ve found it for your bucket list. And you might be surprised to learn where it is.

Keep reading to find out where the ice cream capital is and why. We also reveal some of the best menu options at the town’s favorite ice cream shop.

Let’s get the scoop!

What Is the Ice Cream Capital of the World?

The ice cream capital of the world is – drum roll, please! – Le Mars, Iowa. That’s right; you’ll find ice cream heaven in the middle of the United States.

Le Mars’ claim to fame is that it’s the home to Wells Enterprises, Inc., the world’s largest producer of ice cream novelties in one area.

Wells established itself in the early 1900s after partnering with local dairy farmers. It makes sense that the ice cream capital of the world would be in the middle of the dairy cow country.

Why Is Iowa the Ice Cream Capital of the World?

Le Mars earned the title of ice cream capital of the world in 1994. Wells Enterprises made the most ice cream by one manufacturer in one location to get them these bragging rights.

The company exploded all types of ice cream features around the city, including 50 ice cream sculptures, the famous Blue Bunny ice cream parlor, and the visitor’s center.

While you can purchase Wells’ products throughout North America, visiting the headquarters in Iowa is a fun experience.
